Bringing Global Knowledge to the Local Community #wec10 #mpi

Meeting Professional International’s World Education Conference began a day early for four speakers who gave voluntary presentations to the British Columbia Institute of Technology and The Art Institute of Vancouver on Friday 24th July.

The idea for the community engagement event came from the UK & Ireland chapter’s Marketing Chair Miguel Neves who, motivated by the idea that CSR initiatives should be about more than the environment, reached out to two Vancouver based universities.

Over 30 students attended the 3 hour session which included presentations on political intelligence from David Bancroft-Turner, Sustainability Standards by Fiona Pelham and Andrew Walker and technology trends by Ruud Janssen.

Student Shawn Cheng from The Art Institute of Vancouver said ‘This presentation provided information on 3 key topics presented in 3 different styles and this has given me a great deal to think about.’

David Tikkanen Program Head from British Columbia Institute of Technology noted ‘It was amazing to have MPI reach out to the students before the official start of the conference. It really brought the value of an MPI student membership into their environment with great results.’

Mike Granek Academic Director from The Art Institute of Vancouver explained that although most of his students would be volunteering onsite during the conference this was a unique opportunity for them to experience MPI’s education programme as a delegate.
The ‘bringing global knowledge to the local community’ event is likely to take place at future international conferences and Miguel Neves stated ‘its great to see MPI leaving a legacy of brainpower’!
